Social media users have threatened to boycott all the Kenyan celebrities who will not hope in to their recently started bandwagon hashtagged #Lowerfoodprices.
While taking to social media they expressed their disappointment with the celebrities who they say have a voice and large following but choose to ignore their genuine plight of petitioning the government to lower food prices.
“Since no celebrity has used #lowerfoodprices on their Facebook page, Ig and twitter, we should all go to their YouTube channels and unsubscribe plus no attendance of their concert for a while year,” a social media by the name Kamau Kimani shared on Facebook.
Seemingly in an agreement with the suggested boycott other social media users also stated that the celebrities ought to use their voices to help them air these particular grievances.
“If we don’t support their work, they will feel the pinch and for sure their voices to the relevant bodies can be heard...” someone else said.
“How can they comment while they are paid hundreds of thousands to advertise, this our country is sick and we are tired. The mwananchi wa kawaida anaumia our celebrities they don’t #lowerfoodprices. It’s a mission Kenyans will win on their own without anyone’s support but if we stay true to the goal we might stand a chance,” yet another social media user said.
The hashtag was recently started by Kenyans in a bid to persuade the responsible authorities to lower the food prices which has been going higher year in year out.
A number of celebrities and even the political class have hoped in the challenge including Churchill, Dennis Itumbi, Kalenjin comedian propesa, Eric Omondi, Oscar Sudi among others.
